“…put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” — Ephesians 4:24 (NIV)
Here’s a detail that sets people free: Paul says put on the new self — like clothing. He doesn’t say sew it, earn it, or gradually become it. You can only put on something that already exists, that’s already hanging in your closet, already yours, already your size.
And look at how the new self got there: it was created — by God, not by you — “to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” Your new self isn’t your potential. It’s not who you might become if you finally get disciplined. It’s who you already are in Christ, created righteous and holy at the deepest level of your being the moment you believed.
This is why the old “try harder to change” project keeps failing — it’s tailoring clothes for a dead man. God’s way is simpler: wake up, remember who He made you, and wear it. Walk into today dressed in who you actually are. Behavior follows identity, always. You don’t become new by acting new; you act new because you are new.
Declaration: My new self was created by God, righteous and holy — today I put on who I already am.
