“In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 6:11 (NIV)

Notice what God asks of you here — and what He doesn’t. He doesn’t say “make yourselves dead to sin.” He doesn’t say “feel dead to sin.” He says count yourselves dead. It’s an accounting word. You don’t create the funds by counting them; you count them because they’re already in the account.

This is where so many believers get stuck. They wait to feel dead to sin before they’ll believe it, and the feeling never comes first. God’s order is the opposite: believe what He says happened at the cross, and the experience follows the believing. Your death to sin isn’t something you achieve on a good day and lose on a bad one. It’s a historical fact that took place in Christ, as real as the crucifixion itself.

So when temptation whispers “this is just who you are,” do the math God told you to do. Count yourself dead to that old master and alive to your Father. You’re not pretending. You’re finally telling the truth.
